Phentermine’s History

Xenical, or Zenical as it is often referred to, has helped a large number of people to control their weight problems. However, combating obesity is no straight forward task. If you want to lose a significant amount of weight, research has shown that along with a moderate diet and exercise, Xenical can help you achieve your goals.

How does Xenical work?

Xenical or Zenical is an effective inhibitor of gastrointestinal lipases, an enzyme that serves to digest and absorb dietary fats. In essence, as a result- 30% of your fat intake will pass through your bowels, meaning less fat is stored within the body. Consequently, your body is no longer able to use this dietary fat for the conversion into fatty tissue, making it a highly effective weight loss medication.

Weight loss achieved with Xenical can help prevent the development of type-2 diabetes in some patients, whilst serving to lower cholesterol levels. Moreover; it can effectively serve to prevent a host of additional weight related diseases, like high blood pressure and heart disease.

How Should Xenical Be Taken?

The most frequently recommended dose of Xenical is one 120mg capsule, to be taken three times daily, immediately before, during or up to one hour after a meal. It is important to note that Zenical works most effectively in the presence of dietary fats. Thus any meal consumed with a zero fat content, will not require the administration of Xenical.

Xenical Orlistat – Orlistat, the fundamental comprisal found in Xenical, works with your body to block some of the fat (30% of dietary fat) from being ingested from your meal, and thus preventing it from being absorbed into the body. This undigested fat is then removed in your bowel movements.

In essence, the absorption of fat is decreased by around 30 percent with Xenical. Since undigested triglycerides are not absorbed, the reduced caloric intake will help you achieve significant weight loss.

Xenical – Weight Loss Clinical Trials – Xenical has been subject to a number of stringent clinical trials. In seven long term multi-centre clinical trials of Xenical, the medication has proved successful in terms of safety and efficiency. The three main areas on which Xenical was tested were weight loss, weight maintenance, and weight regain. In addition, the product was tested against a number of obesity-related illnesses.

The efficacy and safety of Xenical was measured in approximately 4200 patients. Around 2,800 patients were treated with orlistat with 1,400 patients being treated with a placebo. Each patient was asked to maintain a well-balanced, reduced calorie diet. The diet was specifically intended to decrease caloric intake by 20 percent, and to provide at least 30 percent of calories from fat. Furthermore, these patients were offered nutritional counselling.

At the end of 12 months, 57 percent of the patients treated with orlistat and 31 percent of the placebo-treated patients were reported to have lost at least 5 percent of their body weight.

Weight Loss with Xenical

Xenical will only be prescribed for obese patients with a body mass index of 30 or more. It is also suitable for patients with a BMI of 27 or higher, who is also suffering with high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes. In relation, a BMI index is a measure of weight, in relation to height

For instance, somebody who is 5’3” in height and weighs approximately 12 stones, would have a BMI of 30 (medically obese).

The recommended dose of Xenical is one capsule, to be taken with each of your daily meals. However, it is not necessary to take Xenical after a meal with a low fat content.

Xenical will serve to reduce the absorption of some fat-soluble vitamins and beta carotene. Patients taking Xenical for weight loss should take a supplement that contains fat soluble (A, D, E, and K) vitamins and beta carotene.
